Our embassy successfully organized its national day reception on 18 October 2023 in the ballroom of the Shangri-La New Delhi hotel. It was the first time such an event took place after the Covid epidemic. The event was attended by nearly 300 people, representatives of India's political, economic, cultural, scientific, educational, military and diplomatic life, including many ambassadors accredited to New Delhi honoured the event, and also representatives from other Indian states and cities travelled for the celebration. Among others, Indira Gandhi's granddaughter took part in the Hungarian celebration, whose guest of honour was Mr. Abhay Thakur, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (G20 Sous Sherpa).

 

Ambassador István Szabó recalled the great moments of the revolution, its heroes, and its historical significance. He praised the efforts of India's diplomatic mission in Budapest at the time to prevent the execution of Árpád Göncz. State Secretary Mr. Thakur pointed out the importance of the declaration adopted by consensus at the G20 summit in New Delhi, in which he helped in drafting, he also commemorated the 75th anniversary of Hungarian-Indian diplomatic relations, emphasizing the dynamic development of our multilateral relations system.

 

At the event, the local Capital City Minstrels choir sang the anthems, and the event was also enriched by the 1956 exhibition specially prepared for this occasion by the Liszt Cultural Institute.
