On March 10, 2022, the Hungarian Parliament elected a new President of the Republic in the person of Ms. Katalin Novák, the first female President of Hungary. The Parliament decided by secret voting on the person of the new head of state, and after the announcement of the final result, the elected President took the oath of allegiance. The President of the Republic is elected by Parliament for five years. Katalin Novák will take up her office on 10 May 2022.

 

Katalin Novák was born on 6 September 1977 in Szeged. She completed her university studies at the University of Economic Sciences and Public Administration of Budapest and at the University of Szeged, and also studied in Paris with a scholarship. She is an economist.

 

She has started her career in 2001 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Minister János Martonyi. After spending six years at home with her children, between 2010 and 2012 she was an adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and between 2012 and 2014 she was the Head of Cabinet of Minister Zoltán Balog at the Ministry of Human Capacities. From 2014 to 2020 she was Secretary of State for Family and Youth Affairs, and from 2017 to 2021 she was Vice-President of Fidesz, responsible for its foreign affairs, among other things. She has been a member of the Hungarian National Assembly since 2018. From 2020 to 2021 she was Minister for Families.

 

Katalin Novák has lived and worked in the United States, France and Germany. In addition to his mother tongue, she is fluent in English, French and German and conversational Spanish. Mother of two boys and a girl.
