On September 7, 2021, the Wigner Physics Research Center of the Eötvös Loránd Research Network and the Indian Institute of Technology Indore signed a cooperation agreement on a joint research program. The agreement provides an opportunity for students and researchers from the two institutes to participate in the ongoing research, mainly in high-energy nuclear and particle physics, and provides a framework for further cooperation and researcher exchanges between the institutes. The agreement was signed by Professor Péter Lévai, Director General of the Wigner Institute, and Prof. Avinash Sonawane, Dean, International Affairs and Outreach, IIT Indore.
The ceremony was held in a hybrid meeting, with Indian scientists currently visit at the Wigner Institute in person, while other IIT Indore personalities joined the event online. At the meeting, Indian participants praised the importance of the agreement and stressed that IIT Indore has extensive international relations, but this is the first agreement to be concluded with a Central European institution. Professor Sonawane, Dean of International Relations, emphasized that this step could open the way for further bilateral relations with Hungary, so they would like to know more about the possibilities of Hungarian-Indian research and academic cooperation.
The Wigner Institute said that they have a long tradition of collaborating with Indian researchers, and they have several links across India. Special thanks were given to the Embassy of Hungary in New Delhi for its regular support to Wigner in developing their existing research programs in India. On behalf of H.E. Ambassador of Hungary, Dr. Hilda Farkas counselor science and technology welcomed the agreement, congratulated the parties and wished them every success in working together.
